John Henry Coffey, 70, of Ashboro, [sic] N.C., formerly of Lexington, died Saturday, May 26, at the Brian Nursing Center in Asheboro.

He was born Feb. 2, 1920 in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Jacob Coffey and Mary Lotts Coffey. He was married to Minnie Detter Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was self-employed and was a former member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy for four years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Larry Edward Coffey and David Lynn Coffey, both of Asheboro; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Steed of Front Royal and Mrs. Mary Stuart Lotts of Fairfield; and a brother, Alfred Coffey of Glasgow.

The funeral was conducted Monday, May 28, at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Allen Hamann. Burial followed in the Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

John Henry Coffey and Minnie Lea Detter were married on 14 July 1949 in Roanoke, VA. Minnie Lea Detter, daughter of Albert Henry Detter and Ida Mae Baldwin, was born in 1924 in Catawba Co., NC. Minnie died in 1996 at the age of 72 in Rockcastle Co., KY and was buried at Timber Ridge ARP Church Cemetery in Lexington, VA.29548,29549
