James Coffey, 78, of Omak

James Coffey, 78, of Omak, died July 3, 1998, at his home in Omak.

James was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Malott, to William L. and Emma J. (Lingle) Coffey. He attended and graduated from Okanogan High School in 1939.

He married Ellen J. Dinger Feb. 27, 1947, in Spokane.

James worked for Crown Zellerbach for 27 years, retiring in 1977. James worked on small engine repair and loved gardening. He also enjoyed helping anyone who needed help.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. "Father is somebody you always looked up to, no matter how tall you are."

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Omak; sons, Edward Coffey of Waitsburg, Patrick and his wife Teresa Coffey of Anacortes, and Bryan and his wife Lynn Coffey of Omak; grandchildren, Lisa Coffey, Jennifer Coffey, Melissa Coffey, Bryan Coffey Jr., and Caleb Coffey; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Bowling, Madison Reed and Chance Williams; sisters, Ethel Peters of Spokane, and Edna Nichel of Spokane; brother, John Coffey of Spokane; special in-laws, Ernie and Lorna Dinger, Eunice and Eric Lundy, and Lucille Goodman of Wenatchee; and lots of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, John Coffey.

Ellen Jewel Dinger, daughter of Anton Dinger and Mary , was born on 21 June 1925 in Winona, Shannon Co., MO. Ellen died in Omak, Okanogan Co., WA on 28 February 2006 and was buried at Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens in Omak, Okanogan Co., WA on 4 March 2006 .44063,44064

Ellen J. Coffey died at her home in Omak surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006.

Ellen was born June 21, 1925, to Anton and Mary Dinger in Winona, Missouri. The family moved from Missouri to Kansas and then to Colorado. In 1942 they moved to Wenatchee, Wash. and two months later settled in Malott, in what is now the Johnny Appleseed Orchards. Ellen married James E. Coffey in 1947 in Spokane, Wash. and they made their long—lasting home on the Omak Flats.

Ellen worked for the Omak Public Library for 19 years. She was a member of the local Fraternal Order of Eagles #3004. Ellen was an avid quilter and enjoyed walking with Mettie Fry and other friends, gardening, volunteering at the Omak Senior Center and collecting frogs and blue glass. She loved cooking and spent hours preparing delicious holiday meals for her family. Ellen treasured time spent with family and friends and looked forward to her trips to Bonaparte Lake each year.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Coffey, in 1998; her son, John A. Coffey; a sister, Shannon Gazaway; and her parents.

She is survived by her sons, Ed Coffey of Omak, Pat Coffey of Anacortes, Bryan Coffey (Lynn) of Omak; her grandchildren, Lisa Coffey of Post Falls, Idaho, Jennifer Coffey of Omak, Melissa Coffey of Seattle, BJ Coffey of Omak and Caleb Coffey of Pullman; her great—grandchildren, Katie Bowling, Madison Reed, Chance Williams and Spencer Fall; her sisters, Lucille Goodman of Wenatchee, Eunice Lundy of Omak and Betty Mathison of Wenatchee; and her brother, Ernie Dinger of Spokane.

A celebration of Ellen's life was held at the Eagles Lodge on Elmway, Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Omak Senior Center or Okanogan County Home Health/Hospice.
