Third Generation

14. Winifred Coffey was born circa 1739 in Essex Co., VA.

Winifred Coffey and Nicholas Moran38 were married circa 1760 in Virginia.
Little is known about this daughter. We do know that she married Nicolas Moran, and that he had a land patent of 150 acres in Amherst Co. in 1767, but lived in Albemarle Co. from 1763 to 1766. They have not been found in Wilkes Co., NC records, and therefore likely remained in Virginia. Winifred was probably born about 1739 in Essex Co., but no sure proof has been found.

In A History of Watuaga County, author John Preston Arthur names Winifred's husband as Nicholas Morrison. Nicholas Moran was born in 1732 in Quebec, CN. Nicholas died in Amherst Co., VA in 1805.

Surname in question. It could be Morrison, Morrinson or similar.

The 1800 census schedule for Virginia was lost, making it nearly impossible to locate families. Some of the VA schedules can be recreated using tax lists and other records.
