Charles Eugene Coffey, 58, died Wednesday, March 25 in Lincoln City. He had been a Lincoln City resident for the past six years, after moving from California.

He was born April 17, 1933, in Huntington Beach, Calif., to Francis and Hazel (Richardson) Coffey. On Oct. 10, 1979, he married Shirley Barton in Reno, Nev. He served in the National Guard and the U. S. Army, 181st Grizzly Battalion during the Korean Conflict.

For many years he enjoyed working as aline [sic] cook and most recently as manager of the Money Saver Motel in Newport.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Coffey of Lincoln City; his sons, Edward Coffey, Christopher Coffey, Kevin Coffey, all of California, Charles L. Coffey of Illinois, Dana Crabb of Klamath Falls, Donald Crabb and Dale Crabb, both of Salem; his daughters, Helen Coffey of California, Jeanie Parrish of Washington, Deanna Johns of Salem, Danelle Barker of Hermiston and Doleen Tavares of Newport; his brothers, Donald Coffey and Jay Coffey, both of California; also 35 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jonnie Putnam.

Charles Eugene Coffey and Shirley Anne Barton were married on 10 October 1979 in Reno, Washoe Co., NV. Shirley Anne Barton, daughter of Silas Tazrel Barton and LaVida Estella Lortie, was born on 25 April 1935 in Minam, Wallowa Co., OR. She lived with her parents in Lostine, Wallowa Co., OR on 15 April 1940. Shirley died at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Lincoln Co., OR on 19 November 2011 and her body was cremated.40595
