Lenoir, NC – Mr. Andrew Hall Chester, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. Mr. Chester was born on February 3, 1926 in Caldwell County to the late Finley and Martha Coffey Chester. He is survived by his wife Thelma Swann Chester.

Andy was a loving husband, father and Paw Paw. He loved the outdoors and walking in his woods. He also loved collecting antique cars and farm equipment.

He was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church and served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He was a police officer for the City of Lenoir then served as a deputy for the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department. He also drove a gasoline tanker for 30 years and then retired and went back to work as a detention officer for the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department. He then retired from there at the age of 70.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Hall Chester, Jr.; sisters, Mozelle Kaminski, Carolyn Sierra, and Elizabeth Chester, all of Illinois.

Other than his wife he is survived by his daughter, Andrea Lovins and husband Tommy; grandson, John-Andrew Lovins; brothers, Albert “F.C.” Chester of Lenoir, Paul Chester of Lenoir; sisters, Addie “Lea” Lambert of Lenoir, Flora Adkins of Illinois, and, Rowena Negron of Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Park on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Marcus Ollis officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tony Colvard, Kenneth Phillips, Tim Cannon, Chris Stough, Billy Lovins, and Darrell Triplett. His brother, Albert “F.C.” Chester will serve as honorary pallbearer.
