Will of Matilda S. Campbell

In the name of God, Amen, I Matilda Campbell of the county of Nelson, State of Virginia, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this life, do make and declare this to be my last Will and Testament as follows:

(1) First after my lawful debts are paid, I give, devise, and bequeath to my beloved (7) seven children, my farm known as the homestead place, and dwelling in which we now reside; containing about 150 one hundred and fifty acres, more or less, minus a certain boundary which I sold off to my two sons, Ellis and Oscar Campbell to satisfy a debt against the place.

Said boundary sold in two lots containing about 50 fifty acres, more or less, known by lines and specification of writing, different objects for lines which is their own not to be divided with the rest of the five children when the debt is paid.

Second, after my death I request that the homestead place be sold, minus the two lots sold to Ellis and Oscar Campbell, to the highest bidder, and the money to be equally divided between my seven children, each to share and share alike.

I hereby constitute J.S.C. Snead to be the executor of this my last will and testament.

I give and devise my household and kitchen furniture and other items particularly named to my son Jimmie Campbell. I give and devise one of my beds and all of my bed clothes and his father’s bed stead and his father’s trunk.

I give and devise to my daughter Sarah Jane Phillips my big spinning wheel, and one cottage bed stead known as her father’s.

I give and devise to my son E.J. Campbell, one log chain and one long handle dirt shovel.

I give and devise to my son Ellick my nine half gallon glass fruit cans.

I give and devise to my son Ellis Campbell my trunk, and to my grandchild Georgia Campbell I give my clock.

I give and devise to my seven children my stone jars 18 one gal. jars, two one and one half gal. 3 gal. one gallon to be equally divided per gal. among them all seven. (7)

I give and devise to my brother Joseph Coffey one pitch fork.
