Wife of Quince Coffey; daughter of James W. and Lizzie (Kerns) Hadley.

Our community was shocked Thursday, April 15, 1943, when the death angel visited the home of Quince Coffey and claimed for its own his beloved wife, Mary E., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Hadley, born April 7, 1890 [sic], making her 42 years and 8 days old... She leaves a husband, father and mother, four brothers, Mont, Claud, Bell, Icsum Hadley, three sisters, Mrs. Lula Coffey, New Berlin, Ill. Mrs. Martha Carr, Rantoul, Ill., and Miss Nannie Lee Hadley, Russell Springs.

The funeral was held at Free Union church where she was a member. Rev. Carl Loy preached the funeral and the remains were laid to rest in the church cemetery. I wish to express sympathy to all, especially her aged parents who were not able to attend the funeral.

Grissom funeral director [of Columbia] was in charge.

Transcriber's note: The KY death record abstracts also give Mrs. Coffey's age as 42. Her gravemarker at Free Union cemetery, Adair County, gives her birthdate as 7 April 1901.
