Montebello-Mrs. Martha Coffey Hatter, 80, died last night in the Parks Nursing Home in Waynesboro after a long illness.

She was born in Nelson County on Jan. 14, 1883, a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Betty Fitzgerald Coffey. She was a member of Evergreen Christian Church.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eva C. Bradley of Afton; one brother, the Rev. Aubrey Coffey of Logan, W. Va.; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, the late Walker H. Hatter, preceded her in death in 1946.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Christian Church at Nash with burial in the family cemetery.

The family will assemble at the Piney River Funeral Home to leave for the church.

Martha A. Coffey and Walker H. Hatter were married on 7 February 1902 in Nelson Co., VA.14037 They14037 appeared in the census on 25 April 1910 in Nelson Co., VA.14038 They14038 appeared in the census on 7 February 1920 in Nelson Co., VA.14039 Martha and Walker14039 appeared in the census on 5 April 1930 in Nelson Co., VA.14040

It is apparent from the census record that Walker and Martha had but one child. Walker H. Hatter was born on 7 June 1879. Walker died on 1 October 1946 at the age of 67 in Virginia and was buried at Benjamin F. Coffey Family Cemetery in Nelson Co., VA.
