"Died in a Gordonsville hospital, July 17, 1978 at the age of 78 years, Rev. Pettit H. Coffey, of Louisa, Va. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary S. Coffey, two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Demastus and Mrs. Nellie Coffey; two brothers, Hugh and Saylor Coffey, all of Lyndhurst, Va.

"Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. from the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, Va. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery."

There were no children born to this union. Mary Elizabeth Simms, daughter of John William Simms and Lottie Hairfield, was born on 5 July 1915 in Spotsylvania Co., VA. Mary died in Louisa, Louisa Co., VA on 31 March 2011 and was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa, Louisa Co., VA on 3 April 2011 .28573

Mary Simms Coffey Wheeler, 95, passed away on March 31, 2011 at Louisa Healthcare where she had resided for the last three years. She was born July 5, 1915 to the late Lottie Hairfield Simms and John William Simms. She had worked for the Louisa Department Store for many years and was the organist at Edgewood & Bethel Christian Church for 52 years where her late first husband Pettit H. Coffey was the Pastor. She was also preceded in death by her late second husband Arthur G. Wheeler, who was the Pastor of Hollywood Church of the Brethren in Ferry Farm. Mary was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Spotsylvania.

She is survived by four nieces, Iris Simms Deale, Pansy Simms Massey, Joan Fisher Wood, and Bobbye Ray Ballard Gutridge; four nephews, Jennings Simms, Manford Carr, Lowell Carr, Donnie Carr.

Services will be held at 3pm on Sunday April 3, 2011 at Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa with Pastor Bob Ellinger and Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Family will accept friends one hour prior at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Mary's great niece Annette Massey, great nephews Ricky Deale, Bobby Wood, Timmy Wood, Tommy Wood, and two special friends Steward Robbins and Charles Knight.
