Staunton - Mrs. and Mrs. E. L. Gordon, of Churchville, announce the marriage of their daughter, Rachel Kathleen, to Corporal Guy L. Coffey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Coffey, of Stuarts Draft. The couple were married by the Rev. Herbert S. Turner Thursday evening, May 19, at 6 o'clock. Corporal Coffey left Sunday night for Camp Beale, Calif., where he is stationed.

Rachel Kathleen Gordon, daughter of Edward Lee Gordon and Sally Virginia Michael, was born on 22 January 1924 in Churchville, Augusta Co., VA. Rachel died on 28 September 2010 at the age of 86 at home in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA and was buried at Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Stuarts Draft, Augusta Co., VA on 1 October 2010.⁴³⁴³⁵

WAYNESBORO — Rachel Kathleen (Gordon) Coffey, 86, of Waynesboro passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at her residence. Born Jan. 22, 1924, in Churchville, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Sally Virginia (Michael) Gordon.

Mrs. Coffey was a member of Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and tending to her flowers. Rachel was the most loving, caring mother and Nanny. We will miss her more than words can say.

On May 20, 1943, she married Guy L. Coffey, who preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1994. They had been married for 51 years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by son, Guy Lyle Coffey Jr.; brothers, Cecil A., William B., James E., Cletus C., Wade H. and Austin L. Gordon; and sisters, Ruby A. Culpen, Nellie L. Freed and Lugene E. Warren.
Mrs. Coffey is survived by her daughter, Sandra Miller of Waynesboro; sons, Gary W. Coffey and wife, Corrine, of Staunton and Darrell G. Coffey and wife, Tammy, of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Lisa Hodge and husband, Thomas, Brian Toft, Adam Coffey and Jessi Kidd and husband, Jeremiah; great-grandson, Matthew Hodge; brother, Edward L. Gordon; and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as special caregiver, Phyllis Mays.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Mount Vernon Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Randy Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Adam Coffey, Brian Toft, Ted Warren, Eddie Lee, Michael, Doug and David Gordon and Jeremiah Kidd.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 30, 2010, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes at 618 W. Main St. and at other times at Rachel's home.
