Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Coffey, 86, who passed away Sunday, May 13 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a short illness, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17 at the First Baptist Church in Indianola. Burial with military rites will following in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Indianola.

Bob is survived by many loving family members, first and foremost being his wife of 61 years, Millie; three children, Lynn (Pat) McConnell, Beth (Mike) Mealey, and Steve (Beth) Coffey; five grandchildren, Megan (Tom) Hughes, Ross (Dixie) McConnell, Emily and Abby Coffey and Madison Mealey; two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Hughes; sister, Jean Hamilton; niece, Jana (Bill) Krempasky; and nephew, Jeff Fight.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Adene (Surbaugh) Coffey; brothers, Maynard and Delbert; and great-granddaughter, Lily Grace. 

Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorials may be made to Indianola First Baptist Church, Warren County Meals on Wheels program or the Good Shepherd Fund at The Village in Indianola. Mildred “Millie” Maxine Coffey, 87, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, at The Village in Indianola, Iowa. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 7, at the First Baptist Church in Indianola with visitation held two hours prior to services starting at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Millie and her twin sister Marian were born in Martinsburg, Iowa, on Dec. 22, 1929. She graduated from high school in Hedrick, Iowa in 1946. Millie married Robert “Bob” Coffey in 1950. The couple settled in Indianola in 1956 where they raised their three children. After the children were grown, Millie worked as a teller at Peoples Bank in Indianola for many years.

Cooking, baking and family meals brought Millie joy. She could often be found in the kitchen and was known for her fabulous egg noodles and fruit pies. Millie loved to read and had an extensive library. During the growing season she spent most evenings tending her garden with the help of Bob.
The Iowa State Fair held a special place in Millie’s heart. Together with Bob and their children and grandchildren, they made an annual day-long trip to the State Fair for decades. From the baking competitions to the music and the fair food, Millie loved all parts of the fair.

Millie is survived by many loving family members, including two of her children: Lynn (Pat) McConnell and Beth (Mike) Mealey. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Beth Coffey, and five grandchildren Megan (Tom) Hughes, Ross (Dixie) McConnell, Emily and Abby Coffey, and Madison Mealey. She is survived by five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Sarah, and Henry Hughes and Cooper and Collins McConnell. Millie is also survived by her sister Marian McCreery of Sigourney and her sister-in-law Jean Hamilton and niece Jana (Bill) Krempasky, all of Indianola, and nephew Jeff Fight of Redfield.

Millie is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Robert “Bob” Coffey, parents Walter and Lula (Hollingsworth) Porter, brothers Clarence, Walter, Gene, and Kenneth, son Steve Coffey, and great-granddaughter Lily Grace.
