Obituary, Dignity Memorial and Whitten Timberlake Chapel Lynchburg, VA

Nellie Beard of Lynchburg passed away peacefully at the Guggenheimer Hospice Unit on Sunday, June 18, 2017 after a short visit. She had been at the home of her daughter, Pam Norris and her husband for several years while battling ovarian cancer and Alzheimer's.

She was born August 4, 1932, in Lynchburg, but lived in Nelson Co. until she married at the age of 17. She was the last surviving child born to Charlie and Lizzetty Fitzgerald Coffey. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, and father of her three girls, Ed W. Martin, and her second husband, L. B. Beard Jr. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include three daughters: Pam M. Norris (Eric) and children Carrie E. Richardson and A. J. Crist, of Amherst Co.; Sue Hyatt (Bill) and children Scott Smith, Stacy Smith, Kris Hyatt and Kelly Hyatt of Blythewood, S.C.; and Nina Crist (Sam) and daughter Danielle of Gladys; six great-grandchildren and devoted nieces Ginny, Edith and Bobbie. She is also survived by her devoted neighbors, Martin and Barbara Davis.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 10:45 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Whitten Funeral Home, Timberlake Chapel and other times at the home of her daughter Pam. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Whitten Funeral Home, Timberlake Chapel with Reverend Jonathan Falwell officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Nellie Marie Coffey and Edward Warren Martin were married on 23 December 1950 in Lynchburg, Independent City, VA.29690 Edward Warren Martin, son of Roy Martin and Ollie Johnson, was born on 28 September 1932 in Virginia. Edward died at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia on 27 April 1985 of cardiopulmonary arrest and was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Independent City, VA in April 1985 .29691,29692
