Wayne Norman Hansard, 81 years and 7 months, of Morristown, went to join our dear Lord and Savior and all our dear loved ones in heaven on Aug. 18, 2013. He was a member of Buffalo Trail Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Ann Hansard Underwood; parents, Dan and Nora (Edmondson) Hansard; brother, Howard Beverly Hansard; mother-in-law, Delta Coffey; father-in-law, Burley Jackson; brother-in-law, Harold Dean Jackson; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances; son, David W.; grandson, David A. Underwood; sister-in-law, Joyce Hansard; brother-in-law, Wayne Ray Parris; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sue (Duck) Jackson; sister-in-law, Christine (Jackson) Cameron; several nieces, nephews and a great number of cousins and friends.

Wayne was a graduate of LMU and George Peabody College. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy; two years on the USS Fulton, a submarine tender and two years on the base at Groton, Conn. He taught school for two years in Hamblen County and was director of parks and recreation in Morristown for 33 years. Wayne was also a founding board member of the Youth Emergency Shelter. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buffalo Trail Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at Hamblen Memory Gardens. Services will be conducted by Dr. Keith Mowery and the Rev. Roger Hansard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Lighting the Way” at Buffalo Trail Baptist Church; 1829 Sherwood Drive, Morristown, TN 37814 or Morristown Parks and Recreation Dept., 415 W. Louise Ave., Morristown, TN 37813.

The family would like to say a “big special thank you” to all the staff and workers at Signature Health Care in Rogersville for all their tender loving care of Wayne and to all who helped in any way. Thank you for your prayers and support. Our loss is Heavens’ gain.
