Lovie Carrie (Coffey) Brooks, 89 years young, passed away Thursday July 18, 2013, at Avante of Waynesboro.

Mrs. Brooks was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Love, Va. and was a daughter of the late Andrew and Ethel Coffey. Lovie was a longtime member of Blue Ridge Christian Church. She was dearly devoted to her children, grandchildren and many others. Lovie retired from Dupont and enjoyed her huge vegetable garden, flowers, yard work and going to Clearwater, Fla. on vacation.

Lovie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Lawrence E. “Pete” Brooks.

Together with her husband, they had two children, Lawrence E. “Larry” Brooks, who preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1998 and a daughter, Angel B. Lowery and husband, Jackie who survives.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Brooks is survived by her loving grandchildren, who knew her as “Mamie”, Travis Brooks, Lindsey Megginson and fiancé, David Coffey, Megan Lowery and boyfriend, Jake Peeling, Sherri Mayo, Chad Brooks and wife, Erin; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Cooper, Kennedy and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friends, Ann Hughes, Heber Coffey, Ruby Kestner and her caregiver, Pat Halloway. She was the eldest of six children, Shirley Cushard and Margaret Cummings who survive and Elwood “Jimmy” Coffey, Hazel German and Bill Coffey who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her grandson-in-law, Matthew Megginson.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday July 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Todd Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening July 22, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers for the service will be Scott German, Rodney German, Greg Coffey, Jeff Gustkey, Chad Brooks, Travis Brooks, David Coffey and Jake Peeling.

Lovie Carrie Coffey and Lawrence Edwin "Pete" Brooks were married. Lawrence Edwin "Pete" Brooks, son of Finley Carl Brooks and Blanche Marie Dameron, was born on 4 May 1923. Lawrence died at Waynesboro Community Hospital in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA on 22 November 1982 of respiratory failure and was buried at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA in November 1982 .42954,42955,42956
