Services for Charles R. Coffey, 72, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 29, in Marietta's First Baptist Church with Jeff McLemore officiating. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta. Arrangements were directed by Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.

Born October 22, 1933, at Wapanucka, the son of Bartley and Edna Lea Smith Coffey, he died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at his residence in Marietta.

Raised in Johnston County, Mr. Coffey had been a resident of Marietta for the past 14 years. He graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1951 and taught school and served as superintendent in various school systems in Oklahoma and Texas for more than 30 years, including Lone Grove, Plainview and Valliant in Oklahoma and Muenster, Texas. He and Phyllis J. Johnson were married June 9, 1956, at Tishomingo, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2005. Mr. Coffey served in the U.S. Navy for three years and was buried with military honors. He was a member of Marietta's First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Leslie Coffey of Highland Village, Texas; and a grandson, Spencer Coffey.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Pallbearers are Bill Hilton, Jack Murray, Bob Gross, Bud Barnes, John Kimbrough and David Haynes. Honorary pallbearers are Alvin Hilton, Eddie Griffin, George Hatfield, Marvin Hamilton, and Haskell Combes.

A living couple was married in 1956 in Tishomingo, Johnston Co., OK. Living (private).
