Lewis Matthew Coffey Lewis Matthew Coffey, 82, of Madison Heights went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 11, 2013, following an extended illness.

Born in Rockbridge County, August 31, 1931, he was a son of the late Edward F. Coffey and Beulah Wiseman Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Coffey; and three brothers, Junior, Charles and Bruce Coffey.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce J. Coffey of Madison Heights; one daughter, Selena Rushton and husband, Todd, of Spartanburg, S.C.; three brothers, Jerry Coffey and wife, Pat, and Maynard Coffey, all of Roanoke and Fred Coffey and wife, Judy, of Buena Vista; two sisters, Shirley Mitchell of Vinton and Bernice Grow of Buena Vista; his brother-in-law, Douglas Jefferson of Newport News; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lewis was retired from Bob Evans where he served in product sales. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Lewis loved the Lord and loved people and he loved serving both.

A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care and attention provided by the staff of Centra Hospice. Lewis Matthew Coffey and Joyce Ann Jefferson were married on 20 October 1979 in Madison Heights, Amherst Co., VA.43573 Joyce Ann Jefferson, daughter of Elmer King Jefferson and Claudine Harris, was born on 24 March 1941 in Roanoke Co., VA. Joyce died in Newport News, VA on 4 March 2018 and was buried at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst, Amherst Co., VA in March 2018 .43574
