CARMI - Lester A. McLane of Marion, Ind., beloved husband and father, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.

He was born in Morgan County, Ill., on Jan. 24, 1918, to Joseph A. and Roxie A. Coffey McLane. When he was quite young, his family moved to Wayne County, Ky. He lived in Carmi from 1948-1969. He worked for Gallagher Drilling Company and later worked for General Motors in Marion, Ind.

He served in the Army Air Corps, stationed at Burton wood, England during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn McLane; daughter Roxie (David) Pierson, Muncie, Ind.; one stepson, Gary (Martha) Lay, Jacksonville, Fla.; one step daughter-in-law, Diane Lay, Corbin, Ky.; four step grandchildren, David (Deb) Pierson Jr., Muncie, Ind.; Cindy (Phil) Zimmerman, New Castle, Ind.; Katie Lay, Jacksonville, Fla.; Christopher (Ashley) Lay, Corbin, Ky.; one step-great grandson, Tom Kochell, New Castle, Ind.; three nephews, Bryan (Shirley) Coffey, Salem; Lisle (Carolyn) Coffey, Centralia; Bill (Beverly) Coffey, Naples, Fla.; several great nieces and great-nephews; and two brothers-in-law, H.L. McCuan of Marion and Randall McCuan.

He is pre-deceased by his wife, Margaret McCuan McLane; sister, Esther McLane Coffey; one stepson, Michael Lay; one nephew, Don Coffey; and one step grandson, Rick Pierson.

A memorial service was Saturday, Oct. 8, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi with burial and military service recognition following at White County Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion.

Lester Allen McLane and Margaret Ann McCuan were married. Margaret Ann McCuan, daughter of Heze McCuan and Evenna , was born on 1 September 1926. She lived with her parents in Marion, West Marion Twp., Williamson Co., IL on 18 April 1940. Margaret died in Illinois on 30 January 1992 and was buried at White County Memorial Garden in Carmi, White Co., IL in February 1992 .41721
