Shirley Coffey Holt, 83 years of the Montpelier Community of Adair County, Ky., passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at 9:25 p.m.a fter several months illness.

She was born Oct. 1, 1933 in Montpelier, Ky. the daughter of the late Holland and Zelma Morrison Coffey.

She had professed her faith at a young age and was a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Lindsey Wilson College and the University of Louisville. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 38 years in Jefferson and Adair Counties. After retirement she subbed for many years at John Adair Intermediate School. She was a member of the Club 92 Homemakers for 30+ years. She loved reading and was a member of the Book Club at the Adair County Public Library.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orvil Holt on Oct. 22, 2005.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers in law, Lowell Smith, Arvis Holt, Kenneth Holt and a sister in law Nioma Kean.

Shirley is survived by: one daughter, Laura Beth Murrell and husband Greg of Columbia; three granddaughters, Emily Cross (Abe) of Glensfork, Olivia Sanders (Tyler) of Knoxville, Tenn., amd Anna Murrell of Columbia; two great grandchildren, Delaney Rose Cross and Deacon Holt Cross; two sisters, Ina Smith of Louisville, and Guinda Sue Miller (Bobby) of Gahanna, Ohio; four brothers: Joe Norman Coffey and wife Ada, Earl Coffey and wife Marilyn of Montpelier, Carl Coffey and wife June of Glasgow, Gene Coffey and wife Lillie of Louisville.

Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, and her caretakers Debbie Bryant and Melinda Knight

Funeral service as held Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at S tot t s -Phelps -McQuear y Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Wethington and Bro. Terry White officiating.

Interment was in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia.

Orvil Holt, 77, World War II veteran, dies

Orvil Holt, 77, 1099 Montpelier RD, Columbia, KY (the Montpelier Community) passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005, at his home after several weeks illness.

The funeral service will be Monday, October 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Bill Wethington and Bro. Terry White officiating.

He was the son of the late Albert and Eliza Williams Holt of Russell County, KY.

He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church, a farmer and construction worker, and was a Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Coffey Holt, Columbia, KY, and the following: One daughter: Laura Beth Murrell: Columbia, KY

Two brothers: Arvis Holt and David Holt, both of Russell Springs, KY 

One sister: Nioma Ruth Kean, Russell Springs, KY 

Three grandchildren: Emily, Olivia, and Anna Murrell, Columbia, KY

Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, Columbia, KY.

The family requests visitation after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2004, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
