In 1900 census he gave his birth date as Mar., 1850. But, in a letter written by Carrie Coffey Heaps, his birthdate is given as Mar. 21, 1852. James died in Apple Creek, Perry Co., MO on 14 April 1917 and was buried at Yount Community Cemetery in Yount, Perry Co., MO in April 1917 .8911 James Arthur Coffey and Martha D. Dalton were married on 20 February 1877 in Grainger Co., TN.8912 They8912 appeared in the census on 23 June 1880 in Grainger Co., TN.8913 They8913 appeared in the census on 8 June 1900 in St. Marys Twp., Perry Co., MO.8914 James and Martha8914 appeared in the census on 22 April 1910 in St. Marys Twp., Perry Co., MO.8915 Martha D. Dalton, daughter of Carter Jackson Dalton and Charlotte Carpenter, was born on 14 January 1858 in Copper Ridge, Grainger Co., TN. In the 1860 census for Grainger Co., this child was aged 2 years and named Martha Singleton. It appears then that over the years, she became known as Martha Dalton and was Martha Dalton Coffey on her Missouri death certificate. In that document, her father was named as Jackson Dalton and mother as Charlotte Carpenter. However, as in many census records, the enumerator might have made a gross mistake and recorded her as a Singleton rather than a Dalton, even though she was born two years after Carter Jackson Dalton and Charlotte Carpenter Singleton were married.
