George H. Coffey Sr., 78, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road.

Mr. Coffey was born in Echo. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps at Midway Island. He moved to Amarillo in 1949. He retired from Asarco and also worked at Mesa Petroleum as head of security. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.

He married Martha Grace Lackey in 1946 at Oakland, Calif. She died in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Sue Mason and Martha Jo Hunt, both of Amarillo; three sons, George Coffey Jr. of Amarillo, James Michael Coffey of Texhoma and Dwayne Allen Coffey of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, T.R. Coffey of Burkett; three sisters, Miriam Kuebler of Burkett, Elva Atkins of Cabool, Mo., and Sue Hill of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to KAK Choir, Second Baptist Church, 419 N. Buchanan St., Amarillo, TX 79107.

Martha Grace Coffey, 73, of 1623 N. Highland St., died Saturday, May
24, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Second Baptist Church with Charles Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road.

Mrs. Coffey was born in Paris, Ark. She moved to Amarillo in 1949. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church. She was also a member of KAK Choir.

She married George H. Coffey in 1946 at Oakland, Calif.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, George Coffey Jr. of Amarillo, James Michael Coffey of Texhoma, Okla., and Dwayne Allen Coffey of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Kathy Sue Mason and Martha Jo Hunt, both of Amarillo; two sisters, Margaret Bennett of Caruthersville, Mo., and Hazel Beck of Blytheville, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

George Henry Coffey, 71, of Amarillo passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at his home. A celebration of life service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Brother Charlie Jones officiating. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

George was born in 1947 in Amarillo to George and Martha Coffey. He attended Palo Duro High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served for decades before retiring and then becoming a well loved and admired school teacher here in Amarillo. He was awarded the Teacher of the Year at Austin Middle School in 2012. George was an avid reader, car enthusiast and a master of crossword puzzles. He enjoyed being a member of the Top of Texas Trans Am Car Club. George was a cherished and adored Father, Pappa, Brother, Uncle and Cousin and the most amazing father that anyone could ask for. George's favorite past time was spending time with the ones he loved, his dogs at his side laughing and joking to new and old stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Coffey and Brian Anniss and Natalie and Blaise Timco; two grandchildren, Dresden and Sawyer Timco; two sisters, Kathy Mason and husband Joe Bob and Martha Jo Hendricks and husband Charles; two brothers, Dwayne Coffey and Mike Coffey and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Amarillo Food bank or any animal shelter. Following the graveside service, there will a celebration of life get together in his honor at his favorite place "The Ranch".
