Mrs. Mary Ellen Poteat, 75, of Valdese, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus, Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Mary was born, July 25, 1937, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Grayson and Mamie Clay Coffey. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Stephen Dewey Poteat; two daughters, Renee' Sigmon and husband, Darren, and Denise Brittain and husband, Alex. She is also survived by three brothers, Hillard and wife, Dorothy, of Hudson, Wayne Coffey, and Royce Coffey, of Lenoir; and a sister Shirley Coffey Haas, of Lenoir; three grandchildren, Justin Brittain, Matthew Brittain, and Melissa Sigmon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mary Ellen Poteat, will be held, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with the Revs. George Williams, and Ron Arndt officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum, at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan.15, at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Memorial UMC, Men's and Women's Club, P.O. Box 3061, Drexel, NC 28619, or NCN Ministries, 578 Cape Hickory Rd., Hickory, NC 28601.
