136. Edward Coffee468 was born on 29 September 1793 in Virginia. Edward died in Georgia on 31 May 1858 and was buried at Bleckley Cemetery in Clayton, Rabun Co., GA in June 1858 .469,470

Death of Gen. Coffee.-This prominent Democrat and most estimable man died at his residence in Rabun county, on the 30th ult., of dropsy of the chest, in the 65th year of his age.

He was a native of South Carolina, but moved to Georgia soon after arriving at manhood, and for near thirty years represented Rabun county in one or the other branch of the Legislature. He held the office of State Senator from that county at the time of his death. - Athens Banner, 24th.

Mentioned as one of the first settlers (1821), is General Edward Coffee, who was the purchaser in the first land transaction of the Chechero Dist. Later, the General's daughter, Sarah m. Franklin A. Bleckley and occupied the site. Other children were Eliza m. Dudley Singleton; and Margaret m. Edmund Singleton. Five brothers moved from South Carolina to Georgia with Edward: Joel, Cleveland, Elijah, Eisha, and John. Edward, who was given the title General for his part in the campaigns against the Cherokee, was sheriff in 1841-36 and senator in the Georgia Legislature 1841/2, 55-58. He died in office in 1858. Joel Coffee m. Martha Cobb. They had a son John who was a noted Baptist preacher. Cleveland Coffey was one of the commissioners to select Justices for the Inferior [sic] Court of the county. He and his wife Martha had 10 children. He died in 1843.

Edward Coffee and Elizabeth Neville were married. They appeared in the census on 19 November 1850 in Rabun Co., GA.471 Elizabeth Neville, daughter of Jesse Neville and Margaret McCarter, was born on 24 June 1790 in Pickens Co., now Oconee Co., SC. Elizabeth resided with Arzelia Thompson Coffee in Persimmon, Rabun Co., GA on 31 July 1860. Elizabeth resided with the Franklin Bleckley family in Clayton, Rabun Co., GA on 26 August 1870. Elizabeth died in Georgia on 15 September 1879 and was buried at Bleckley Cemetery in Clayton, Rabun Co., GA in September 1879 .472
