Mrs. Mildred Viola (Hoover) Woods, 96, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Augusta Medical Center after a short illness.She was born December 21, 1919, in Staunton, daughter of the late Earle and Elsie Hoover. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Woods, and Atwell Hewitt.Mildred was an excellent cook, enjoyed flowers, and had quite a green thumb for plants inside and outside. She was retired from General Electric Co., Waynesboro.Surviving are her five children, Lowell Hewitt of Lovingston, Wayne Hewitt (Becky) of Chesterfield, Judy Kite (Wayne), and Bruce Hewitt (Lili), all of Waynesboro, and Marlin Hewitt (Theresa) of Deerfield; and grandchildren, Randy Hewitt, Mike Hewitt (Rie), Bert Hewitt, Jake Hewitt (Lori), Zac Hewitt (Libby), Pamela Guthridge (Thilo), Corey Kite (Sarah), Kimberly Shifflett (Alden), Jason Hewitt (Wendy), Justin Hewitt (Martha), Nicholas Hewitt, Tish Branch, Tina Hewitt, Luke Hewitt (Leslie), Kelly Henderson (Josh), Scott Thompson (Tammy), Shanon Stratton, and Shelly Blackwell (Ross). After a long and healthy life she is also survived by 31 great-grandchildren.There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Augusta Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Tim Hall.McDow Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
