Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home for Mrs. Fannie Coffey, 51, who died at 7:15 a.m. yesterday at home, 111, Hunter St., city.

Mrs. Coffey was born August 19, 1900, in Nelson County, daughter of the late Luke and Anna Coffey Demastus. She was a member of the Waynesboro Christian Church.

The survivors include her husband, Alvin Coffey; two sons, Oakley W. Coffey, Takoma Park, Md., and Malcolm Coffey, Waynesboro; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Matheny, Waynesboro; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Sutton, Staunton, and Mrs. Lucy Jones, Clifton Forge; and one brother, Odie Demastus, Love.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Harvey C. Bream of the Church of Christ, Staunton. Interment will be in Calvary Methodist Church cemetery, Stuarts Draft.

Active pallbearers will be W. M. Mason, R. W. Toman, E. C. Riddle, S. W. Maupin, Gordon Matheny and H. G. Hassett.

Fannie Demastus and Alvin Reynolds Coffey were married on 21 November 1918 in Nelson Co., VA.13707 They13707 lived with his parents in Nelson Co., VA on 26 January 1920. They appeared in the census on 14 April 1930 at Hickory Ridge in South River Dist., Augusta Co., VA.13708 Alvin Reynolds Coffey, son of Peter Hilman Coffey and Mary Susan Tyree, was born on 24 May 1894 in Nelson Co., VA. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home for Alvin Reynolds Coffey, 61, Fishersville, who was found dead in a mountain creek just east of Waynesboro City Limits about 8 a.m. yesterday.

Medical Examiner Dr. Beverly J. Loesch termed death accidental by drowning. According to information given the official, the man was last seen alive by a nephew Sunday at 10 a.m.
The body was discovered in the mountain stream which flows from Jones Hollow under the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway by Henry H. Massie, Box 545, Craigsville, who was hitchhiking at the time. Mr. Massie had left Route 250 minutes earlier and saw the body lying in the water at the edge of the culvert under the railway.

Mr. Massie went up the mountain to find a telephone and later was brought to Waynesboro to make the report to the police department by Wallace Redd, Port Republic Rd., city.

Capt. I. S. Whitlock and Patrolman L. F. Harlow answered the call in a standby capacity awaiting the arrival of Augusta County Deputy Sheriff P. C. Furr. Chief C. H. Benson later arrived at the scene. The case was turned over to the county authorities as it occurred in Augusta County.
Mr. Coffey had resided in Fishersville with his sister, Mrs. Annie Coffey, for the past eight years. He was a farmer and member of the Waynesboro Christian Church.

Born May 24, 1895, in Augusta County, Mr. Coffey was a son of the late Peter and Susie Mary Tyree Coffey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Demastus Coffey on May 19, 1950. 

Survivors include two sons, Oakley W. Coffey, Silver Springs, Md., and DeWitt Malcolm Coffey, 316 Isle Ave., city; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Matheny, 111 Hunter St., city; three brothers, Dewey Coffey, Wilson Coffey and Bernard Coffey, all of Route 2, Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Annie) Coffey, Fishersville, and Mrs. Andrew (Ethel) Coffey, Route 2, Waynesboro; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Otis Mayhew. Interment will be in Calvary Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be R. W. Toman, W. M. Mason, William B. Sparks, Paul Q. Simmons, Gordon A. Matheny and Harold G. Hassett.
