Frances Coffey Miller Smith, 98, of Lynchburg died on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, Bedford.

Born in Nelson County on Jan. 18, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Charles Lynwood and Kathryn Wright Coffey. Widowed twice, she was preceded in death by husbands Herman H. Miller and Floyd H. Smith.

She retired in 1951 from Craddock and Terry Shoe Company after 20 years of service. In recent years she had worked for the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging, and was a member of Park View United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her son Charles Miller of Forest; a sister, Elizabeth Howard of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Sandra M. McMillen. A graveside service followed in Jonesboro Cemetery in Nelson County.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Park View United Methodist Church, Memorial Avenue and Wadsworth Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory, Lynchburg, was in charge of arrangements.
