Maurice Samuel West, 93, died July 5, 2002 at Integrated Health Services in Las Vegas, Nev. Born in Sterling, Colo., April 1, 1909, he lived in Las Vegas, Nev. for two years, in California for 81 years and in the Victor Valley for 45 years. He retired as a self-employed landscaping, mining and lumber businessman. He was in the Navy Sea Bees during World War II, a member of the Fox-Coates Daylight Masonic Lodge, recipient of the Masonic Hiram award, served as president of the Apple Valley View Mutual Water Association for 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Verona West of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter Gayla Ryser of Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughters Jamie Dunn Murphy of Victorville, Julie and Jennifer Ryser, both of Las Vegas, Nev. and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. July 27 at the Masonic Temple, 14941 Hesperia Road in Victorville. Inurnment will be private at Desert View Memorial Park, 11500 Amargosa Road in Victorville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Maurice West, to Childhood Language Disorders, C/O Scottish Rite, 4400 N. Varsity Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92407.

Maurice Samuel West and Veronica Marguerite "Verona" Trank were married on 2 February 1935. They appeared in the census on 19 April 1940 in Huntington Park, Los Angeles Co., CA.38565 Veronica Marguerite "Verona" Trank was born on 27 June 1913 in Loomis, Phelps Co., NE. Veronica died in Las Vegas, Clark Co., NV on 28 March 2007 and was buried at Sunset Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary in Apple Valley, San Bernardino Co., CA in March 2007 .38566,38567

Virginia [sic] West, 93, passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada of natural causes. She was born in Loomis, Nebraska. She moved with her family to Bloomington in 1920 and graduated from Colton High School in 1932. On February 2, 1935 she married Maurice West. They moved to Apple Valley, Ca. in 1955 where they resided until their move to Nevada in 2000. She was a bookkeeper and a member of Apple Valley T.O.P.S for many years. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; parents Bror and Anna Omen Trank; brothers, Claude, Byron and Jack Trank; sisters Evelyn Case and Betty Peterson; infant daughter, Joy Maureen West. She is survived by her daughter Gayla Ryser and four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Veronica was a gentle, sweet lady who was beloved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
