1640. John Bunyan Coffey was born on 24 October 1839 in North Carolina. John enlisted in the in Co. E, 58th NC Infantry Regt between 5 July 1862 and March 1865 at .

John enlisted as a private on July 5, 1862 in the 58th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. Records show that he was on company rolls on 1 Jan. 1863 and 29 Feb. 1864. He was on leave for 40 days from 19 Mar. 1864, hospitalized on 28 Aug. 1864, and again on 15 Mar 1865 at Greensboro, NC. His unit fought in Georgia, Tennessee, and North and South Carolina. John died in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN on 11 December 1920 of bronchopneumonia and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN on 13 December 1920 .6135,6136,6137,6138

J. B. Coffey Dies at Home of Son in Knoxville

Lenoir, Dec., 14. - News has just been received here of the death of J. B. Caffey [sic], [Coffey] a former citizen of Caldwell county, who died at the home of his son, Dr. G. L. Coffey, Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn., following a few days illness of pneumonia. He was buried in Knoxville yesterday.

Mr. Coffey was born and reared in Caldwell county and lived here until about 10 years ago, when he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Lucy Wyatt of Etowah, Tenn. He was a member of the Adventist church. At the time of his death Mr. Coffey owned considerable farming land in the county. He will be well remembered here by many of the Caldwell people. He was 80 years old.

Mr. Coffey is survived by two sons, Dr. G. L. Coffey and Dr. E. M. Coffey of Knoxville, Tenn and one daughter, Mrs. Will Wyatt of Etowah, Tenn., one sister, Mrs. W. R. Cottrell of Jasper, Fla. J. L. Cottrell of this place is a nephew of the deceased.

Martha died in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN on 19 February 1918 of dilation of heart and cardio nephritis and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Knox Co., TN on 20 February 1918 .6143,6144,6145

Rufus Mathias Coffey was born on 27 November 1887 in Lower Creek, Caldwell Co., NC.6146,6147 He lived with his parents in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 29 April 1910. Rufus died of cardio vascular arteriosclerosis on 5 May 1965 at the age of 77 at Bland Haven Nursing Home in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC and was buried at Bellview Cemetery in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 8 May 1965. Rufus never married.6148,6149
