Lutz in Longview, Hickory Twp., Catawba Co., NC on 10 April 1940. Susan died at home in Mulberry Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 23 January 1949 of hypostatic pneumonia due to a fractured hip and was buried at Harpers Chapel Cemetery in Patterson, Caldwell Co., NC in January 1949 .6236,6237,6238

Mrs. Wilson, 103, Dies in Caldwell

Lenoir, Jan. 24.--Mrs. Susan Caroline Coffey Wilson, 103, Caldwell County's oldest resident, died Sunday following a brief illness.

Funeral will be held at Harper's Chapel Methodist Church Tuesday at 11 a.m.

A native of Murphy, Mrs. Wilson was widely connected throughout Western North Carolina. She was married October 28, 1862, to R. M. Wilson of Caldwell County who died in 1926.

Mrs. Wilson retained keen eyesight and acute hearing despite her advanced age. She "puttered around" in her vegetable and flower gardens at the home of a nephew, J. H. Wilson, with whom she lived.

Surviving are three daughters and a son, all of Oregon or Washington, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lenoir, N.C., Jan. 24, (AP): Mrs. Susan Carolina Coffey Wilson died last night at the age of 103. She was born in 1845 at Murphy when Indians roamed the western part of the state.

The Civil War was in its second year when she married R. M. Wilson, a farmer, in 1862, and moved to Caldwell county. Her husband died in 1926 [sic] [1920].

Mrs. Wilson had been ill only a few days. She lived near here with a nephew, J. H. Wilson. Until the last her mind was alert, her vision keen and her stride steady.

Survivors include three daughters and a son, now residents of Oregon or Washington.
