John Glenn Coffey, 79, of Sherman, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 3, 2006.

Family visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church, 600 Dewey St. in Sherman, TX.

Glenn was born in Creelsboro, Kentucky on June 27, 1927 to John and Dora Coffey. The family relocated to Ravenna when Glenn was very young. He graduated from Bonham High School in 1944 and joined the Merchant Marines. He left the service in 1946 following a hand injury.

Glenn met his future wife, Katie Dixon in 1946 through his brother and sister-in-law, James and Christine Coffey.

The following year he began working the mailroom at Quaker Oats in Sherman. Glenn and Katie were married on October 9, 1948.

One year later daughter Carol was born. Promotions with Quaker sent the family to San Antonio and Nacogdoches where the second child Steve was born in 1954. Returning to Sherman with Quaker their third child Judy was born in 1959. Glenn stayed with Quaker Oats for 27 years including 12 years in Cuero, TX and 1 in Mendota, IL.

In 1976 Glenn and Katie owned and operated a Western Auto store in McKenzie, TN for 5 years. Striving to return to Texas, he became Operations Director at a mall in Brownsville, TX for 3 years, then in Hurst, TX for 7 years. They then retired in their hometown of Sherman in 1992, where they lived on a small farm while Glenn drove a school bus for Sherman I.S.D.

Glenn was an honest hard working man. A true gentleman in very sense of the word. A proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved the outdoors, and left a lasting impression on the world by planting trees in every location they lived.

As a member of Crutchfield Baptist Church, Glenn loved to sing in the choir. Glenn and Katie were married 58 years.

He is survived by his wife, three children, Carol Prescott and her husband Austin of Hurst, TX, Steve Coffey and his wife Renee of Lake Jackson, TX and Judy Bicart and her husband Pete of St. Louis, Missouri. Five Grandchildren, Jeff Prescott, Shelley Cook, Aaron and Jackson Bicart and Sean Coffey. Also four great-grandchildren, Zachery and Nicholas Cook and Madeline and Joshua Prescott. He is also survived by his family, brother, James W. Coffey of Sherman, Ted Coffey of Whitewright and sister, Doris Korioth of Bells.

Glenn will be buried in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. The service will be officiated by Reverends Billy Hackler and Olan Bullard.

Pallbearers for Glenn will be: Bobby Cook, Jeff Prescott, Pete Bicart, Theril Williams, Mike Coffey and Greg Stout.

Glenn always had a special sparkle in his eyes for his family. He loved life, laughter, singing, a good game of 42 and a BIG, little dog named Snoopy!
