Leon E.. Coffey Sr., 70, of Stonington, died at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002, in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville.

He was born August 5, 1932, in Decatur, the son of Elmer and Minnie Bliler Coffey. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He married Norma Jean Harris on March 13, 1991, in Murphysboro. He retired from United Parcel Service having been employed as a mechanic and in maintenance. His memberships included the First Baptist Church in Stonington, American Legion Post #257 in Stonington, AF & AM #1019, and National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean Coffey of Stonington; two sons, Leon and wife Kathy Coffey of Taylorville, and Scott Coffey of S. Boston, MA; daughter, Leah Marie Coffey of Stonington; step-daughter, Annette and husband C.J. Kunkel of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Jody and husband Anthony Rusher, Justin Coffey, Valerie Coffey and Jacob Coffey; and a sister, Helen Porter of Taylorville. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2002, in Sutton Memorial Home Chapel, Taylorville, with Rev. Wayne Molohan officiating. Burial will be in Ponting Cemetery, Stonington with graveside military rites.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2002, in the funeral home. Masonic rites will be given at 5:30 p.m.

Leon Edward Coffey and Norma Jean Harris were married in 1992. Norma Jean Harris, daughter of Glenn Harris and Nona McIntosh Harris, was born on 15 November 1947 in Taylorville, Christian Co., IL. Norma died in Taylorville, Christian Co., IL on 20 March 2011 and was buried at Morrisonville City Cemetery in Morrisonville, Christian Co., IL in March 2011 .47318,47319

Nov. 15, 1947 - Mar. 20, 2011 Norma Jean Coffey, 63, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, in her residence. She was born November 15, 1947, in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Glenn and Nona McIntosh Harris. She married Leon Coffey, Sr. in 1992. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2002. She was a retired receptionist. Surviving are her daughter, Annette and husband C.J. Kunkel of Ohio; grandchildren: Jody Rusher and Justin Coffey, both of Stonington, IL; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Orville and wife Linda Harris of Taylorville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; and brother, Bobby Harris. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, in Sutton Memorial Home with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery, Morrisonville, IL.
