122. John was probably born in Rowan Co., NC on 15 October 1776. He appeared in the census on 1 June 1830 in Hawkins Co., TN.⁴²⁹ John died in Grainger Co., TN on 15 March 1845.

Children were Ausborne, b. 1805, NC; Colby, b. 23 Oct 1806, NC; Elizabeth, b. 14 Oct 1810; Benjamin, b. 8 Feb 1808; Nancy, b 1811, d. 20 20 1896, Rockcastle Co., KY; John Jackson, b. 12 Jan 1812; Margaret E. "Peggy", b. 28 Feb 1822; Sarah Lucinda, b. 1823; William, b. 31 Oct 1828 and Catherine, b. 10 Aug 1834.

Children, proven by deeds of sale to Ausborn, Grainger Co Deed Book K, pp. 209-10,415,532; Book L, pp. 130,491,602-3 and various Bible records, were: Ausburn; Colby; Benjamin; Nancy; John Jackson; Elizabeth; Sarah Lucinda; Margaret; William M; and Catherine. John was drafted for 6 mos term in the War of 1812; January 1, 1814 to June 1, 1814. He served as a sgt in the TN Militia Company commanded by Cap. Samuel Richardson and Col. John Coffey and Elizabeth Rucker were married on 1 March 1804 in Wilkes Co., NC. Elizabeth Rucker, daughter of Colby Rucker and Sarah Roberts, was born on 6 January 1787 in Wilkes Co., NC. She appeared in the census on 15 October 1850 in Grainger Co., TN.⁴³⁰ Elizabeth died on 22 March 1855.

John Coffey and Elizabeth Rucker had the following children:

590	vii.	Nancy Coffey was born on 12 January 1811 in Grainger Co., TN. Nancy resided with her mother in Grainger Co., TN on 15 October 1850. She lived with her brother, Ausborn in Grainger Co., TN on 15 August 1860.⁴³¹ She lived with her nephew William Coffey in Grainger Co., TN on 1 September 1870. Nancy lived with her sister Margaret Coffey Bullen in Rockcastle Co., KY on 1 June 1880. Nancy died on 20 November 1896 at the age of 85 in Rockcastle Co., KY and was buried at Thomas Jefferson Coffey Cemetery in Lake Linville, Rockcastle Co., KY.^432,433 Nancy never married. This could be the Nancy Coffey found in the household with Ausburn and Matilda Coffey in the 1860 Grainger Co., TN census.
