Caldwell Native is Found Shot in Texas Town

Lenoir, Sept. 25 - Clarence Turrle Coffey Jr., 42, native of Caldwell County, was found shot to death Tuesday in his car on a farm road just outside the small eastern Texas town of Henderson.

A justice of the peace ruled death by self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to a report from Henderson.

Coffey had been working in Houston, Tex. and formerly lived at Laneville near Henderson. Investigators said Coffey's two children had been left at a Henderson motel.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Clarence T. Coffey of Route 7, Lenoir; three daughters, Margaret Coffey and Mrs. Mildren Gibbons of Route 2, Granite Falls, Sandra Lee Coffey of Houston; one son, Clarence T. Coffey III of Houston; and two granddaughters.

Coffey served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Clarence Tuttle Coffey Jr. and Rinda Arlea Greene were married in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. They were divorced in 1947 in Duval Co., FL.32555 Rinda Arlea Greene, daughter of Conner J. Greene and Rindia L. Greene, was born in 1924 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.32556
