Vernon Coffey

High Point - Vernon Smith Coffey, 74, of 520 Barker Ave., died Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at English Road Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park.

Coffey was a Caldwell County native, a former employee of Slane Hosiery Mill. He later was in the restaurant business for 30 years. He was a member of the Piedmont Bible Association.

Survivors are wife, Mrs. Hessie White Coffey; daughters, Mrs. Brenda Moricle of Charlotte and Mrs. Mary Ella Caldwell of Reidsville; son, Richard M. Coffey of New Britain, Conn.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of English Road Baptist Church.

HIGH POINT Mrs. Hessie Mildred White Coffey, 87, formerly of Barker Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Hunterwood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation, Charlotte.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, by Dr. James Summey. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Coffey was born March 13, 1914, in Surry County, the daughter of Solomon Sanders White and Molly Lou Ellen White. Mrs. Coffey was retired co-owner of Standard Cafe. She was a member of English Road Baptist Church. She was married to Vernon S. Coffey, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ella Cardwell and husband, Harry of Reidsville, Mrs. Brenda Moricle and husband, Donald of Charlotte; son, Richard Coffey of Avon, Conn.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Coffey will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home, East Lexington Avenue. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

The family request that memorials be directed to Alzheimers Association, 237 Idol St., High Point, N.C. 27262 or to a charity of the donors choice.
