Sarah Coffey and William Porter were married on 26 November 1840 in Griggsville, Pike Co., IL.2916,2917,2918 The Sarah Porter family departed Louisiana, Pike Co., MO circa 7 April 1848 and arrived in the Oregon Territory circa 8 October 1848.

The 1880 Marion Co., OR census, Mehauna Pct., ED88, Sheet 166A lists several Porter families, likely to be this family. Additional research needed. William Porter, son of David Porter and Nancy Culton, was born on 14 December 1812 in Pike Co., MO. He was elected assessor for Marion Co., OR from 1861 to 1865. William was elected to the Oregon state legislature in 1872. William died on 30 March 1899 at the age of 86 in Marion Co., OR and was buried at Aumsville Cemetery in Marion Co., OR.2887,2888

William Porter

Stayton, Or., March 30.--William Porter died today at his home, three miles west of Stayton. He was born in Pike county, Missouri, Dece,ber 14, 1812, and came to this county in 1848.

He was assessor of Marion county from 1861 to 1865. In 1872 he was county commissioner, and two year later was elected to the legislature as a representative.

His wife, 86 years old, survives him, also five children, who are: J. H. Porter, Salem; S. R. Porter, H. C. Porter, Mary Bonbehren, Aumsville; Mrs. C. K. Read, Turner.
