Mary lived with her son John Crittenden Coffey in Marion Co., OR on 10 January 1920. Mary died on 3 May 1922 at the age of 84 in The Dalles, Wasco Co., OR and was buried at Salem, Marion Co., OR.2933,2934,2935

"(Wasco County 1922) #61 - Marguart [sic] M. Coffey, female, widowed, b. 18 Feb 1838 in Afington [sic], Illinois, d. 3 May 1922 in The Dalles, Oregon (3 miles south of) at the age of 84 y's 2 m's 15 d's, name of father Hiram Smith, maiden name of mother Rivers (b. Virginia), undertaker Burget-Morgan of The Dalles, informant T. S. Coffey of The Dalles. Marion County Probate File #187 for Thomas C. Coffey indicates that he died intestate in July of 1859. Wm. Porter and German J. Coffey were appointed administrators on 20 July 1859; heirs were Luciller J., widow; Ghoulson S. Coffey; Eleanor Poindexter; Emily Louise McHaley; Sidney J. Coffey; Francis Elizabeth Coffey; Green Coffey [from a petition to sell land in June of 1860.] Affidavit dated 30 July 1859 lists: Mary E. and Aurora; Thomas C. Coffey signed a note on 1 Jan. 1857, Milton Pike Co., Illinois; DLC taken and now held by Wm. & Marther Porter, 11 May 1860."

Mrs. Margaret M. Coffey. The Dalles, Or., May 4.--(Special.) Mrs. Margaret M. Coffey, 84, died at the home of her son, T. S. Coffey, here last night, following a long illness. She is survived by three sons, John C., Frank N., borht of Salem, and T. S. Coffey of The Dalles, and two granddaughters, Mrs. Ellen Seufert and Miss Beatrice Coffey of The Dalles. The body will be takes to Salem for burial.
This may be the 12 yr. old Mary Smith found in the 1850 Knox Co., IL household with her family headed by Hiram and Sarah Smith.
