Howard Smith "Mickey" Coffey died January 31, 2006, at his home in Gladewater, Texas. 

He was born March 8, 1928, in Sandy Level, Virginia, to Harry B. and Ella L. Coffey. 

He grew up in Lynch Station and Altavista, before leaving to serve in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1948 in China, and from 1950 to 1951 in Korea. 

Following his return, Mr. Coffey spent 28 years as owner/manager of a variety of retail stores in the southeast, then worked as advertising manager of three local newspapers in Texas. 

He may be remembered by earlier Altavista residents as a newspaper boy who walked or rode his bike to strengthen his legs after surviving polio, or as the youngest of the seven Coffey children. 

Mr. Coffey was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond, Owen, and Bill; three sisters, Audrey Anderlie, Edna Williams, and Mary Young; his first wife, Syrena Gray Coffey; and one daughter, Delaine Coffey. He is survived by wife, Bettie Joe Coffey, two daughters, Darrel Blackwell and Debra Robertson; two step-daughters and three grandchildren. 

Funeral services were conducted Feb. 4, at the Clarksville Baptist Church in Gladewater by the pastor and by the chaplain from Heart's Way Hospice of Longview.

Howard Smith "Mickey" Coffey and Syrena Gray Fuqua were married on 30 March 1949 in Richmond, Independent City, VA.47805 Syrena Gray Fuqua, daughter of Tuckerman Claiborne Fuqua and Edythe Brugh, was born on 5 August 1930 in Virginia. Syrena died in Upshur Co., TX on 21 March 1986 and was buried at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater, Upshur Co., TX in March 1986 .47806

Delaine Coffey was born on 4 November 1953 in Texas. Delaine died in Broussard, Lafayette Parish, LA on 10 June 2002 and was buried at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater, Upshur Co., TX in June 2002 .47807,47808

BROUSSARD, La. - Delaine Coffey, 48, beloved daughter, sister and friend, passed away at her home in Broussard on June 10, 2002.

She was a graduate of the University of Texas and a U.S. Army veteran. Prior to moving to Louisiana, Delaine worked in Kerrville as a chemical dependency counselor for several years, impacting and saving many lives.

Survivors include her father, Howard Coffey and wife, Bettie, of Gladewater, Texas; and two sisters, Debra Ann Robertson of Fort Worth and Darrel Lynn Blackwell of Longview, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Syrena Coffey.

Delaine will be transported to Longview for burial. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She will always be in our hearts.
