Darrell B. 'Dick' Coffey

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, in Oregon City Elks Club for Darrell B. "Dick" Coffey, who died March 13 at age 73.

Mr. Coffey was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Yakima and was raised in Gresham. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a firefighter in Yakima and for Boeing in Auburn, Wash., and then for the Portland Fire Bureau for 23 years before retiring in 1965. He lived in Oak Grove from 1963 until he moved to Seaside in 1986. In 1948, he married Shirley Miller.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Janis Alexander of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Penny Smelser of Oregon City; sons, David of Rainier and John of Oregon City; sister, Louella DePaoli of Modesto, Calif.; brother, Clayton of Portland; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Lower Columbia Hospice. Arrangements are by Hughes-Ransom Mortuary & Crematory in Seaside.

A living couple was married in 1948. Living (private).
