In 1913 Nathan was a Lt. in the US Army, stationed at Salt Lake City. He was dispatched by orders to travel to Jackson, MS to aid in the investigation of "alleged irregularities in the office of Adjutant General Fridge and the military department of the state generally."

Edgar Nathan Coffey and Caroline Watson Campbell were married circa 1889 in Mississippi. They appeared in the census on 1 June 1900 at with her parents in Fayette, Jefferson Co., MS.¹⁰²⁹² Caroline Watson Campbell, daughter of Robert William Campbell and Anna Cordelia Girault, was born on 24 June 1869 in Mississippi. Caroline died in Spokane, Spokane Co., WA on 18 November 1955 and was buried at Fort George Wright Cemetery in Spokane, Spokane Co., WA in November 1955 .^{10293,10294,10295}
