Ellis Richard Coffey, 85, died with his family at his side, Saturday, August 10, 2002 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olympia. He was born to Ona May (Thacker) and Richard Calvin Coffey August 9, 1917 at Baring, MO.

He was raised in Coffeyville, KS and entered the US Army Air Force in 1941. During WWII he flew missions from Algeria, Tunisia, Rome, Sardinia, and France as an Engineer-Gunner with the 320th Bombardment Division. He later moved to Olympia and married Clara (Law) on August 30, 1946. He worked for Fleming-Harvey Motors and Boone Ford for 35 years as a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, family visits, and traveling to Army reunions. He was an active member of Evergreen Christian Community.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; daughters, Janet Whitrock and husband Toby, Longview, Debra Rose and husband Chris, Olympia; grandchildren, Jeff Rose, Amber Rose, Jamie Whitrock; brothers, Austin, Coffeyville, KS, Dale, Monkey Island, OK, Leon, Friendwood, TX.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Tommy, Glenn, Raymond, and Howard. Visitation from Noon to 1:00 pm Monday, August 19, 2002 followed by a celebration of his life at 1:00 pm at Evergreen Christian Community, 1000 Black Lake Boulevard, Olympia, WA 98502.

Burial will follow at Masonic Memorial Park, Tumwater. Family suggests memorial donations to Rose Dobson, missionary or to Evergreen Christian Community Building Fund.

A living couple was married in 1946 in Olympia, Thurston Co., WA. Living (private).
