Mary Coffey Greene, 81, of Lenoir went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016. She was born March 17, 1935, in Burke County to the late Wilburn and Jennie Woods Coffey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Coffey and Wilburn Carey Coffey Jr.; and four sisters, Virginia Moses, Coline Coffey, Betty Coffey and Lucy Hartley.

She devoted her life to her husband, daughter and her "blue-eyed sugar," her granddaughter. She loved flowers and gardening. She loved trips to Cades Cove, Tennessee, where she helped her granddaughter count deer. She enjoyed listening to Southern gospel music.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Tommy T. Greene of the home; one daughter, Susan G. Champion and husband A. Miles Champion of Hickory; one beloved granddaughter, Chelsea Page Champion; one sister, Shirley Kincaid of Lenoir; eight nephews and nieces and one great-great niece.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Billy Mitchell. Interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the ser vice at the funeral home.
