MARCH 13, 1914—APRIL 22, 2007

Rosalie Coffey, 93, of Bloomington, died early Sunday morning, April 22, 2007, at Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care in Ellettsville. She was born in Monroe County on March 13, 1914, the daughter of Carmie and Ola (Shields) Deckard. A homemaker, she had previously worked at the former Nurre Glass Co. and RCA of Bloomington before retiring from Indiana University Food Service. She was a member of Clear Creek Christian Church in Bloomington.

Being one of six children, she knew the value of hard work and being self sufficient. She grew up knowing how to create a garden that would produce food for the family, work the farm animals that would provide food not only for themselves but for others and even help generate extra income. Most importantly, she nurtured her love of family, teaching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the need for each other.

Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Geralie Spicer of Bloomington; her son, David Coffey of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Kevin (Kim) Spicer, Jimmie Dean (Phyllis) Coffey, Jane Ann (Mitch) Moriarity, Kerry Frye-Anstead and Jinni Lynn (Billie) Fleetwood; four step-grandchildren, Brooke Hanna, Whitney Hanna, Garrett Fleetwood and Jamison Fleetwood; nine great-grandchildren, Christa Coffey, Cody Coffey, Corbin Frye, Kaili Frye, Shane Spricer, Cali Moriarity, Briley Fleetwood, Cami Moriarity and Brytin Fleetwood; and one sister, Mary Godsey of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald W. Coffey, in 1981; one sister, Arda F. Tuguchie; three brothers, Russell Deckard, Paul A. Deckard and Oliver Elmo Deckard; and one son-in-law, William "Bill" Spicer.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Hughes and Bro. Jim Cain officiating. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell, IN.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made the Alzheimers Association in care of Allen Funeral Home.
