Russell William Coffey

Russell William Coffey was born on March 14, 1932, west of Hinton, OK to Harvey and Dorothy (Day) Coffey. He passed away on January 30, 2017, at his home in Hinton at the age of 84. Russell graduated from SWOSU in Weatherford, OK with a Master's Degree in Education. He married Patricia McWhirter on December 22, 1961, in Maysville, OK. Russell was the principal at Will Rogers Elementary School in Altus, OK for many years. He was also a farmer, rancher, a spur collector, and avid horseman. He was involved in organizing the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo in Altus, OK, was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, a member of The Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Canadian Rivers Old Iron Club in El Reno, OK. Russell had a pilot's license as well. He thoroughly enjoyed welding and made metal artwork in his spare time. He also loved hit and miss engines. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hinton, OK. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him so much.

Survivors Include: his wife, Pat Coffey of Hinton, his children, Larry Coffey of Durant, OK, Janet McCauley and husband Jim of Edmond, OK, and Wade Coffey and wife Cheryl of Stillwater, OK, his grandchildren, Randal Coffey, Ryan Coffey, Laramie and Wyatt Coffey, Tyler Jenkins, Kristen Barrante and husband Justin, and Jane and Susan McCauley, his great-grandchildren, Alexis Coffey and Jude Barrante, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Coffey and Dorothy Coffey Herbold, his siblings, Goldie Gouge and Quay Coffey.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to Russell-Murray Hospice, 221 S. Bickford Ave, El Reno, OK 73036.

Family visitation is scheduled for today from 6-8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home in Hinton. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Hinton with Rev. Gary Haynes officiating with burial to follow at Hinton Cemetery in Hinton.
