JONESBORO — Martha Jane Coffey Johnson, 87, of Jonesboro died Tuesday at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab.

She was born in Independence County but had lived in Jonesboro since childhood. She was a retired travel agent and was a member of Greensboro Road Church of Christ. She had traveled all over the world and loved fishing and camping. She was also a member of the Altrusa Club, Jonesboro Business and Professional Women and the Democrat Club.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Eva Coffey; her sister, Ruby Coffey, all of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews; and three step-daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, O.C. Johnson; her parents, John and Ethel Kendrick Coffey; her brothers, Edgar Coffey, Leslie Coffey, Elmer Coffey, J.W. Coffey and Edward Coffey; and her sisters, Irene Henry and Lorene Owens.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Terry Joe Kee and Bill Willard officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JONESBORO -- O.C. Johnson, 82, of Jonesboro died Tuesday afternoon, July 17, 2007, at his home of natural causes.

Born in Fulton County, Mr. Johnson lived most of his life in the Jonesboro area. He was an officer with the Jonesboro Police Department from 1948-53 and was Craighead County chief deputy sheriff from 1953-66.

He served as a parole officer for the Arkansas State Parole Board from 1966-87.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Greensboro Road Church of Christ and the Jonesboro Kiwanis Club, where he was past secretary and past president.

He was also a charter member and past president of the Northeast Arkansas Peace Officers Association and was current president of the Arkansas State Retirees Association.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brent Powell and Shane Powell; three brothers, Lloyd Johnson, Avis Johnson and Johnny Johnson; and one sister, Agnes Vandiver.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Coffey Johnson of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Buddy Powell of Jonesboro, Brenda and Dairl Hyde of Paragould and Cathy and Warner Calhoun of Jonesboro; one brother, Burl Johnson of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Amber Bingham, Stan Lewis, Brad Hyde, Lori Merritt and Bart Hyde; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Terry Joe Kee, Jimmy Young and E.Winston Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers include Charles Hyatt, David Gibson, Eugene Trotter, Doyle McKinney, Harry Findley, Marshall Lands, John Robinson and Bill Baker.

Honorary pallbearers include Buddy Showalter, Russell Patton Jr., Cleo Davis, James Priest, Artie Flanigan, Ralph Boling, Robert Whittaker, Bill Cribbs, Bill Coy, Ben Honeycutt, Bill Gibson, Bill Bishop, Dustin McDaniel, John Grigsby, Bill Clark, Harold Nichols, Winston Burton, Marion Berry, Steve Woodruff and members of Jonesboro Kiwanis Club.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 this evening at Emerson Funeral Home.
