MOULTRIE — The Rev. Ralph Waldo McDonald, 89, of Moultrie, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 5, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wayne Woods.

Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Casketbearers will be Ryan McDonald, Harrison Sears, Weston Gittens, Shannon Croy, Bruce Sears, Richard Stokes and Rick Gittens.

Born Aug. 27, 1923, in Donalsonville, Ga., he was the son of the late William Hugh McDonald and Nannie Mae McDonald. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and served as a chaplain with the United States Air Force from 1959-1976, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was a graduate of Norman Junior College, Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor at several Baptist churches in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida, including Bethel Baptist Church in Omega, where he served from 1988-1993. He was a former director of Green Oaks Center, served as chaplain for the Civil Air Patrol and was a former rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Coffee McDonald; and four brothers, Grady McDonald, Cecil McDonald, Rudolph McDonald and Bill McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Sanders McDonald of Moultrie; one son, David McDonald of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Joy Croy and husband Shannon of Moultrie, Cindi Gittens of Moultrie, Gina Sears and husband Bruce of Mansfield, Ark., and Cassie Stokes and husband Richard of Ball Ground, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Hillary Elliott, Ryan McDonald, Ansley Gittens, Bethany Hinkle, Weston Gittens, Harrison Sears and Callie Croy; five great-grandchildren, Cannon Elliott, Addison Elliott, Rylee Sears, Ashton Hinkle and Christopher Hinkle; one brother, Wayne McDonald and wife Vera of Cairo, Ga.; three sisters, Sophie Earnest and husband Curtis of Donalsonville, Ga., Marjorie Anderson of Nashville, Ga., and Kate Mitchell and husband Jerry of Jakin, Ga.; and four sisters-in-law, Hazel McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla., Ruby McDonald of Donalsonville, Ga., Matie McDonald of Cairo, Ga., and Judy McDonald of Indiana.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
