GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA — Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Westside Baptist Church, 1261 Atlanta Highway, Gainesville, Georgia, for the Rev. Clarence Theodore Taylor, 99 of Gainesville, who passed away Tuesday, March 22. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until the hour of service. The Rev. Paul Wade will officiate. Interment will be in Alta Vista Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor was a native of Asheville. He was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1944 in Waynesville. He served churches in Haywood and Macon counties and served as director of missions in Macon County Baptist Associations before accepting a call to Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hall County, Gainesville, Georgia. He served in the ministry for more than 50 years

Before entering the ministry, Mr. Taylor and his brother, Bill, had a string band called "The Hill Top Merry Makers." They played on radio and put on a country music show in schoolhouses.

Mr. Taylor also owned and operated a Christian Book Store in Waynesville prior to entering Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute.

He taught seminary extension class for black church members for three years in Franklin, and for three years in Gainesville, Georgia.

After retiring from the ministry at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Gainesville, he owned a photography business specializing in weddings and portraits.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Etta P. Taylor; son, Timothy Taylor; brothers, Bill and Richard Taylor; sisters, Estelle Laney and Mary Lee Scruggs.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Lawrence Keever of Conyers, Georgia; grandson and wife, Mark and Marda Keever of Dallas, Georgia; granddaughter, Camilla Keever of Covington, Georgia; great granddaughter, Samantha Faye Keever of Dallas, Georgia; brother, David Taylor of Granite Falls; sister, Lucy Franklin of Hildebran and other relatives and friends.

Rev. Clarence Theodore Taylor and Zora Etta Pruitt were married. Zora Etta Pruitt was born on 26 February 1911 in North Carolina. Zora died in Georgia on 12 February 1991 and was buried at Gainesville, Hall Co., GA in February 1991.39385
