The editor wrote that these Coffey men "were sons of Rice Coffey, who had moved to Bedford County from Virginia. Coffey is the spelling used by this family, although others probably used Coffee more often than the correct form."

The Doak Family source does not name Michael as one of Alexander's sons. Instead, the author names him Napoleon.

Alexander H. COFFEE, will August 1st, 1863 "now in JACKSON COUNTY, ALABAMA" but "home in Bedford County, Tennessee". Copied from the records of Bedford County, dated August 1, 1863. He mentioned: "My grandson Avery Lovelady, son of Pleasant and Mary E. LOVELADY, formerly Mary E. Coffee"; "my son Rice A. Coffee"; My son "Weightstill Avery Coffee"; witnesses: John R. Coffee and B. B. Coffee. The Rice Coffee (son of Alexander) was a younger Rice Coffee. There was an older one of the name, who wrote to Jefferson Coffee, whose sister, America Coffee married Samuel Lusk, and who went to Texas and settled in the early days. The letter throws more light on the Coffee Family of Bedford County.
