2784. Milton Wolford "Mint" Coffey was born on 26 January 1846 in Kentucky. He lived with his parents in Russell Co., KY on 4 August 1850. Milton resided with his parents in Collin Co., TX on 25 June 1860. Mint died on 24 June 1922 at the age of 76 in Carter Co., OK and was buried at Lone Grove Cemetery in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK.9997,9998,9999,10000

"Pioneer Citizen of County Died Early Saturday

"M. W. Coffey was Third of Brothers to Die on Successive Days; Two are Buried in Texas

"Three brothers have been claimed by death on successive days.

"When M. W. Coffey, aged 76, of Lone Grove, died at his home at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, he was the last of the trip. His older brother, Will Coffey, died at McKinney, Texas, Friday, his younger brother, Taylor Coffey, died at McKinney on Thursday.

"Deceased had been a resident of Carter county for 34 years and was one of the most dependable men in his community. The greater part of his residence here was spent in the Lone Grove community where he came to know and was known by all the old timers of Carter county and had a host of friends among the so-called new-comers.

"He is survived by his wife, seven sons, I. J., of Duncan, T. O., M. P., E. W., A. W., Sale, and Walter, all of Lone Grove, and two daughters, Mrs. Wood Herndon and Mrs. Sam Lane.

"Funeral services will be conducted at the Lone Grove Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, the Rev. J. B. Snider of McKinney, Texas officiating, with interment in the Lone Grove cemetery."


"Crowd Attended Coffey Funeral

"Funeral services for M. W. (Mint) Coffey of Lone Grove who was the third of brothers to die within a period of 76 hours, late last week, was held at Lone Grove Sunday afternoon, and was attended by a great crowd of friends of the family.

"Deceased is survived by his wife, seven sons, I. J., of Duncan, T. O., M. P., E. W., A. W., Sale and Walter all of Lone Grove, and two daughters, Mrs. Wood Herndon and Mrs. Sam Lane, and Miss Stella Lee Coffey, granddaughter, who lived with the family since the death of her mother, and has been reared by the family."

Milton Wolford "Mint" Coffey and Amanda Virginia "Jenny" Lewis were married on 19 October 1869 in Colbert Station, Panola Co., Chickasas Nation, IT.10001,10002 They10001,10002 appeared in the census on 5 October 1870 at with her parents in McKinney, Collin Co., TX. They appeared in the census on 16 June 1880 in Collin Co., TX.10003 Mint and Jenny10003 appeared in the census on 4 June 1900 in Indian Territory, Chickasaw Nation, OK.10004 They10004 appeared in the census on 8 April 1910 in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK.10005 They10005 appeared in the census on 14 January 1920 in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK.10006 Amanda Virginia "Jenny" Lewis, daughter of Leander Lewis and Mary , was born on 17 April 1851 in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, OK.

According to 1910 census for her son William, Jenny was a member of the Chickasaw tribe. She was 1/8 Indian and 7/8 white. However, in the 1930 census, her daughter, Myrtle reported that her father was "mixed blood" and her mother was a Chickasaw Indian. That she was a Chickasaw Indian was confirmed in the Lone Grove Ledger article on Jun. 26, 1985 by Sue Miller when she interviewed some of her grandchildren.

Amanda died on 20 October 1924 at the age of 73 in Carter Co., OK and was buried at Lone Grove Cemetery in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK.10007,10008

Taylor Otis "Odie" Coffey was born on 2 January 1872 in Texas. He lived with his parents in Indian Territory, Chickasaw Nation, OK on 4 June 1900. He lived with his parents in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK on 8 April 1910. Odie lived with his parents in Lone Grove, Carter Co., OK on 14 January 1920. He was reported to be ill with blood poisioning on 6 February 1922 at Hardy Sanitarium in Ardmore, Carter Co., OK.10009

"The condition of Otis Coffey of Lone Grove who is ill of blood poisoning at Hardy sanitarium is improving. Mr. Coffey scalded his foot during the Christmas holidays and from an infection blood poisoning was caused." Odie died unmarried on 8 October 1924 at the age of 52 in Carter Co., OK and was buried at Lone Grove Cemetery in Carter Co., OK.10010,10011 The child born in this order was named Isaac in the 1880 census.
