Seventh Generation

5167. Pearl A. Edwards was born in September 1876 in Indiana. Pearl died in Indiana on 29 January 1956 and was buried at Bloomfield, Greene Co., IN in February 1956.16787

Pearl A. Edwards and William Mack Haig were married on 28 June 1900 in Owen Co., IN.16788 William Mack Haig, son of William Hope Haig and Mary Richardson, was born on 10 February 1866 in Scotland, Greene Co., IN. William died in Bloomfield, Greene Co., IN on 3 December 1924 and was buried at Bloomfield, Greene Co., IN on 5 December 1924.16789

After an illness of several weeks, which confined him to his bed for nearly one month, William Mack HAIG passed to his heavenly reward yesterday evening at six o’clock.

He was president of the Bloomfield State Bank, which in 1907, succeeded the Bloomfield Bank, where first he took up his financial training under the late deceased, Oscar W. SHRYER, when he was nineteen years old. He moved to Bloomfield from Scotland with his mother, sister and brother, to attend school, and afterwards taught in the Bloomfield schools for a time before engaging in the banking business.

He had lived here continuously since he was sixteen years old, and has always been held in high esteem and regarded by everyone as one of the town’s most exemplary citizens. He never belonged to any secret society nor did he affiliate with any organization except the Baptist Church, but he was always highly respected and participated in all town social affairs.

When the late Thomas SHARPLESS died at an advanced age at Scotland he selected Mr. HAIG to distribute his bequests at his discretion to the Baptist churches of the Bedford association, and later he became a trustee of the Board of Promotion of the Baptist association, which had charge of similar bequests. He was a deacon in the local Baptist Church, and was the Sunday school superintendent and chorister for that organization for a number of years.

He was a lover of music and sang with the Bloomfield quartet until recently. He also had been a member of Bloomfield bands, and particularly was proud of his membership in the Welch Military band under the direction of J. H. SENEFF. He was active in all musical organizations promoted by our music loving citizens.

The death of Mr. Haig recalls how the silent messenger has invaded the ranks of those actively engaged in banking in Bloomfield, as his death makes the sixth in less than two years, and with his passing every one of the four banks has suffered the loss of one or more officers. Mr. HAIG was, indeed, a banker and he will be sadly missed by many a man who confided in him and who was always accommodated and helped by his generosity, counsel and wisdom as a true banker and friend. The death of Mr. HAIG will be an irreparable loss to the financial circles of Bloomfield.

Since coming to Bloomfield, the deceased has lost in death his mother, Mrs. Mary E. HAIG, two sisters, Theodosia, and Mrs. Leota Welch, and one brother, Dr. John HAIG, who removed to Scotland from LeRoy, Illinois, where he had resided for a number of years.

William M. HAIG was born in Scotland, Greene County, Indiana, on February 6, 1866, and was nearly fifty-nine years of age. He was married to Pearl EDWARDS, a daughter of George W. and May W. EDWARDS, of Spencer, on June 27, 1900, his wife having come to Bloomfield to teach in the public schools, and their acquaintance ripened into love and matrimony.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Helen BARKLEY, of Emison, and Miss Mary Gretchen HAIG, who is cashier of the Bloomfield State Bank, and one sister, Mrs. Edward I. INGLES, of Indianapolis.

The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the family home. The services will be conducted by Rev. J. N. A. DOWNEY, pastor of the Baptist Church. Interment in Grand View Cemetery.
