Myrtle Virginia Grant, age 81 of Williamstown Rd. Shipman, (Nelson County), died Saturday morning January 10, 2004 at the Lovingston Health Care Center. 

Born January 20, 1922 at Montebello (Nelson County), she was a daughter of the late Charlie Austin Coffey and Teressie Fitzgerald Coffey. She was the widow of Alvis Wesley Grant who died April 11, 2003. She is also preceded in death by two sisters: Eula Fitzgerald and Gladys Taylor and one brother: Woody Coffey. She was a member of Antioch Pentecostal Holiness Church at Shipman and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons: Charles W. Grant and wife Heather of Amherst, James A. Grant and wife Frances of Shipman and Larry W. Grant and wife Shirleen of Stafford. A daughter Joan G. Johnson and husband Mike of Madison Heights; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 5 Step-Grandchildren, 2 Step-Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday January 12, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at Wells Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston with Rev. Nancy Grant officiating with interment in the Grant Family Cemetery. The Family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston (434-263-4097).

Myrtle Virginia Coffey and Alvis Wesley Grant were married circa 1940. Alvis Wesley Grant was born on 21 September 1921 in Nelson Co., VA. Alvis died at Lovingston Health Care Center in Lovingston, Nelson Co., VA on 11 April 2003 and was buried at the Grant Family Cemetery in Shipman, Nelson Co., VA on 15 April 2003 .14408

Alvis Wesley Grant, 81, of Shipman, died Friday evening, April 11, 2003, at the Lovingston Health Care Center.

Born September 21, 1921, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late William Henry Grant and Lena Thompson Grant. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Mangus Grant, James Preston Grant, William Carlton Grant and Douglas Grant; and a sister, Blanche Fields.

He was a retired Construction Superintendent and a member of Antioch Pentecostal Holiness Church at Shipman.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Virginia Coffey Grant; three sons, Charles W. Grant and his wife, Heather, of Amherst, James A. Grant Sr., and his wife, Frances, of Shipman and Larry W. Grant and his wife, Shirleen, of Stafford; one daughter, Joan Johnson and her husband, Mike, of Lynchburg; one sister, Lucretia Keister, of Staunton; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at 7 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston, with the Rev. Nancy Grant officiating with interment in the Grant Family Cemetery at Shipman.

The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. and suggest that memorials take the form of donations to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.
