[W. Olin] Coffey, 80, of Cerro Gordo died 3 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 16, 1999) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Brintlinger's Cerro Gordo Funeral Home with 8 p.m. Masonic rites conducted by Cerro Gordo Masonic Lodge 600 AF and AM. Visitation will also be one hour before services Friday in the church. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Stroke Foundation.

Olin was born on July 21, 1918, in Stonington, the son of Walter and Catherine Rapp Coffey. He farmed in the Cerro Gordo area for more than 50 years. He served on the board of the Cerro Gordo Building and Loan for 26 years, director for 25 years, vice president from 1993-1995, past president in 1995 and 1996 and was Director Emeritus 1998-1999. He was a member of the Cerro Gordo Masonic Lodge 600 AF and AM for 54 years and was a past school board member. He married Evelyn Bowlby on April 11, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo.

Surviving are his wife for over 56 years; daughter, Judy Bowlby of Dawson; son, Robert Bowlby and wife Linda of Cerro Gordo; sister, Esther Brame of Decatur; granddaughter, Angela Bowlby of Decatur; numerous nieces and nephews.

Olin was always a friend of the community and willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. In his spare time, he hunted pheasant and quail with his prized bird dog, "Buddy." He read western novels and enjoyed his wife, Evelyn's cooking! Olin will be deeply missed as a loving husband, father and friend.

Walter Olin Coffey and Evelyn V. Bowlby were married on 11 April 1942 in St. Charles, St. Charles Co., MO. Evelyn V. Bowlby was born on 14 July 1915 in Richland Co., IL. Evelyn died in Decatur, Macon Co., IL on 16 March 2010 and was buried at Cerro Gordo, Piatt Co., IL on 20 March 2010.40121
